My very favorite drink is sweet tea with lemon. Actually, like most things, this drink was better when I was a child. I was responsible for preparing it for the family, and the very first step would be to go outside and get some mint leaves. Then I would fill a small, battered tin pot halfway full of water, drop in the mint and about four Lipton tea bags.

While the water and mint came to a boil, I would get out a large plastic pitcher and put about a cup and a half of sugar in it. Then I would take the boiling pot off of the stove, get a strainer, and strain the tea/mint mixture into the pitcher. The boiling mixture would dissolve the sugar. I would stir well, get a lemon, cut it in half, and squeeze one half of the lemon into the pitcher.

Then I would fill the pitcher with water until it was about two thirds full, after which point I would fill the remainder of the space with ice cubes, stir again and put it into the refrigerator. I would do all this under the watchful eye of my mother as she glanced through her metal reading glasses at my handy work, then up to me with a loving and approving smile.

Remember, this recipe doesn't work without the battered tin pot! Even though it's been thirty years, it still anchors my mother's kitchen!

I love chai tea lattes. (...)

I love chai tea lattes. I usually buy my chai lattes at places like Coffee Bean or Starbucks, but when I do make them at home I use Vanilla Chai Tea bags which I soak in boiled water for about 5 minutes. I then take out the teabag, add some honey, sprinkle some cinnamon on top, and then add cold milk. I stir this all around until the honey and cinnamon dissolve into my latte and that's how I drink it.

Chai tea lattes taste sweet, spicy, and creamy. They are best when you drink them hot but are tasty as well with ice or just chilled. Adding nutmeg, chocolate, vanilla flavor, or cinnamon adds that special touch to your chai tea latte.
Chai lattes really calm me down. Like any other cup of tea, they are perfect to drink in the evening while watching a movie or reading a book with your favorite reading glasses on. I drink my chai latte whenever I sit down to relax and have some time to myself. They really do take the edge off and lend to complete relaxation.

On a hot summer day, nothing beats fresh made lemonade.

Start by soaking 4-5 lemons in hot water for about 10 minutes.

Roll each lemon on the counter before cutting in half.

Squeeze as much juice out of each half using a lemon squeezer.

This should create about 2 cups of lemon juice.

Put this in a 2 quart pitcher and add 1 1/2 cups of sugar.

Fill up the pitcher with water and stir until the sugar disolves.

Serve with ice in a glass.

This has some pucker to it, but it is is so thirst-quenching! Completely satisfying! Pour yourself a cold glass, grab your favorite book, magazine, or newspaper and head over to your hammock. Don't forget your reading sunglasses or else you'll have to get up again. Unless of course you're loved ones love enough to get them for you.

My favorite drink, far and away, is Tang. I drink roughly 3 quarts per day. I prefer to drink it at roughly 20% of the recommended strength.

I have a 1-gallon pitcher, and to keep from having to make it practically every day, what I do is make it at full strength, then put just a tiny bit in a glass and then add some cold water to fill the glass. When I was in college this was a great, inexpensive drink to keep on hand.

Tang is recognized more than any other orange drink, if it is good enough for the astronauts, it is good enough for me. Truly, I can not get enough of it.

Watering it down provides two benefits: first, it makes for a very smooth and refreshing drink to sip or chug, and second, it stretches the low cost even further. All around, Tang is the undisputed champion of beverages.

Natural Strawberry and Mango fruit smoothie…

small package of fresh ripe strawberries, 2 fresh whole mangos, 6 cups of crushed ice, 2 cups of skim milk..blend in a blender until smooth, add 1/2 cup of sugar or more if desired.
Can also add 2 lemons for a little tang. Nothing like a little fresh fruit to get you going.

Second Favorite:

There are many cool and refreshing drinks that I love, but I have to say my favorite drink is coffee.

Coffee is the first thing that I need each morning to get me going. I grind my coffee beans for each pot and the aroma from those beans is part of the joy of the drink. I then use a drip coffee maker and, again, enjoy the aroma as the coffee is being brewed. Then I have my first cup of the day, nothing like it! I sit down with my coffee, slip on my reading glasses, and pull up my email. I drink my coffee black, no cream or sugar added. That familar and expected taste is what gets me going. Wonderful!

My favorite book is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. When I first came upon this book, I was at a really low point in my life. My mother had passed away, my marriage failed, I had a blood clot in my leg.

Basically anything that could happen did. When I began to read the book the message inside spoke of living in the now and trying to over come the past.

Mr. Tolle addressed ways to meditate on positive choices and positive thoughts in order to make better life decisions.

After reading this book, all I wanted to do was put on my colorful glasses and read it again and again. The messages inside are so uplifting and I would recommend it for anyone.

She finds herself divorced at the beginning of her 50's and decides to follow her dream. Alone and coping with presbyopia, She travels and lives with indigenous people all over the world. What an inspiration!

Some of her stories make me want to sell everything I own and leave today to do the very same thing. She ends up living for a certain amount of time on Fiji, and the connections she has there are beautiful and touching in their own right. There are ideas about hostels, what and where to go on an adventure such as hers, and updates that are very current. There is even a website!

My favorite book is Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand, simply because it is a well written, inspiring book about a horse that no one thought could be a winner and it truly was an incredible animal.

Laura does a great job of bringing the reader into the story with tidbits and colorful stories around the horse, it's a great read, even for a non horse lover.

One of the most inspiring stories I have ever read and I highly recommend it to absolutely anyone. The movie was also good, but as is the case with most movies v. books; the book is much more intense and allows the reader to expand upon the story in their minds.

The Once and Future King T.H. White This is the story of Camelot and the Knights of the Round Table. King Arthur, Guenivere, Sir Lancelot, Merlin, Mortimer, Uther Pendragon, King Pellinore, and the list goes on and on. Each one of these characters represents something. Virtue and vice. Love and Hate. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Merlin lived backwards, he knew Arthur's future but not his past….

Guenevere loved two men, truly loved two men. It's the story of war and peace, loyalty and betrayal, kings and serfs, wealth and poverty, truth and deception. A childless marriage and a child born out of wedlock. It’s the chronicle of Arthur’s life starting with the sword in the stone and ending with the demise of the infamous round table.

A table that had no head, everyone who sat at the table was of equal value with the man who sat next to him. Might for right, right for might, the inevitable and timeless battle of right and wrong, good and evil. This book is timeless.

Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen's story about a family of five young women growing up in a world foscussed on a family's social class and economic standing.

Mr. Bennet, without any male heirs, must leave his house to his closest male relative - an annoying, and socially awkward, cousin. This leaves his daughters in a bad position. They must make good matches in order to be financially secure later in life, but without any fortune to recommend them, it will not be easy. The two oldest girls, Jane and Elizabeth, are the focus of the story - Elizabeth in particular. They are both intelligent, mature and well-behaved women; their younger sisters are silly, and flirtatious and socially obnoxious. The story follows Elizabeth and Jane as they find and lose and refuse suitors. But as is the case with all Jane Austen stories, the good reach good - although possibly surprising - ends.
